PROGRESS ELEVATIONS

Here are my blocked out elevations in progress. I still need to include the parking lot level and need to work on the fenestrations on the tower as well as incorporate Werner's comments in the tower. I have increased the height of it but I want to make it more powerful. I just wanted to get a post up of my status. I need to move on to the rest of the tasks for the week so I will revisit these at the end of the week. I think my site layout and the ideas I have for landscaping and site elements may impact the facades so I will work on that and the structure next.

Jaclyn,
great start. And I bet you too see allready where it doesn't quite "hang togehter". I think for starters you woul dprofit from including the elevation change from the corner down to the existing building. It would set the tower a few feet higher.
The connection to the sxisting building is a very rough start. Not having a lot of datum lines across the two buildings, we need to investigate other ways of being sympathetic to the existing building. As mentioned in an earlier comment, i could see a solid base on the wing adjacent the existing building rather than the colonnade (also depends on the site plan idea for that area).
The gap between the academic building and the residence needs some attention. It doesn't quite generate the tension yet that you are hinting with your plan with the added and missing volumes in the two different geometries.
I'm a bit sad to see you are changing the fenestration on your tower from framed views to slots. I thought developing your window idea into a porcupine like sculpture at the corner had some merit. Of course this was also before introducing balconies. I support Amr's comment about the angles on the balconies; the geometry doesn't necessarely be dead pararllel, rather it has to work with the intent.

Werner,
Yes I see the many issues that still need to be explored but I do feel I need to study other aspects such as the site and some of my building services such as the water collection as that will definitely impact my elevations. Once I study those some more I will get back to the elevations. I agree about the colonnade but I am struggling on that side as I want to be able to walk from the parking area on the west of my building without walking around it. I was trying to pull it back so you can walk under the upper floors but it is not working so I need to reinvestigate that.
Don’t be sad about the fenestrations on the tower. Those framed views are still in the mix. I haven’t dropped them. I will be studying those a little more by putting some cameras in the model but that will come next week.
Thank you for mentioning the play in elevation at the corner. I will look into that. I have been attempting to increase the height on that but I also don’t want the ceiling heights to become so ridiculously drastic.
Tonight is structure and I hope to be in touch with Kurt in the next few days to go over some of it with him. Thank you for the comments!

Jaclyn,
Is there a way of getting access for the public from the parking through your wintergarden?

Werner,
As I was working on the structure, site and water collection elements of my design last night I may have come up with a solution for that area so the collonade will be replaced by wall. Look for a post either tonight or tomorrow.
