Here is the start of my programming. I have a lot more I want to get into on this but I am going to have to get back to it in the morning. I wanted to get something up now though because I have a feeling some of you will be on tonight. Look forward to your posts!

Jaclyn,
Nicely organized, I am interested in knowing how you came up with the square footage calculation? Any building code reference? I know Werner have not said anything about building breakdown in levels, but a program of 24,534 in one level in Boston could be challenging. My point is that we should probably consider the impact of vertical transportation and life safety requirements in regards to emergency generator rooms, smoke evac., etc. If we are going to consider appliances then I thought we should probably consider how the building goes online. Is kind of like the human body, if the skin, eyes, feet and hands are there, but no heart, kidney, liver and stomach, then there is no body. Then there is the diet, only green salads... :-)
Jaclyn,
Nice programming! Your plaza seems like it will be a very exciting space to hang out in.
Good work!
Jaclyn,
Your right, our programs are very similar, I'm glad we posted about the same time so no one thinks we are working together!!
I like how you have color coded the program; I take it that you are planning on doing your bubble diagram in the same color coding? Eddie brings up a good point on both our blogs, we are probably looking at a vertical type structure, since we are close to the existing BAC, is that vertical circulation part of your 4,500 circulation?
I noticed you have large restrooms in the Academic Area, but small ones in the Welcome Center/Exhibit Hall areas. If the community will have access to the Exhibit Hall, will they have access to the larger restrooms (bigger crowds)? Just a thought…
Great work and I look forward to seeing more!
David,
Thanks for the question about the restrooms; I will have to revise that! I just took a rough percentage for the circulation. Most likely I would have to add the vertical circulation in. I am trying to get my bubble diagram up and yes that is color coded. Just to break it down into sections and what I feel needs to grouped together and located adjacent to one another.
Eddie,
Thank you for the comments. I am very interested in your comments regarding the green design. I am very excited about this semester because I am not very familiar with the practices of Green Design and know that I will learn so much this semester. So… throughout the semester, please feel free to point out anything to me that I may be doing in a positive direction or a negative direction. I was definitely thinking vertical but I do see your point. I am rethinking some of my stuff now as we type. I am working on getting the rough bubble diagram up which of course is subject to change this week. It is just a starting point for me.
Jaclyn,
As I work on my area calculations I start to realize that we will need more utility room planning than we have considered so far. I know this first draft is what it is, but what about the technical aspect of the building. I started to think about water heaters vs. boiler rooms. Typically, bigger buildings or high occupancy facilities opt for boilers because is more economical, this would eliminate water heater closets. If the street water pressure is nothing more than spitting, then we will need a fire pump. I don't mean to get to technical, but I like laying out all the cards on the table and then go to battle. Good luck!
Eddie,
I completely agree. I am realizing that as I am laying out the bubble diagram. I increased them slightly on my bubble diagram compares to my program, but I know I need to look at that in more detail. Thanks for the heads up. It’s difficult doing this without a site, as you don’t know what the restrictions are. How many square feet can we fit on one floor, what is the shape of the building, etc. I too like to lay everything out. That will be my next step after this very schematic grouping exercise I have done.
